- Student academic grievance procedure.† The
committee conducted extensive discussion of the academic grievance
procedure.† The basic problem is that students working in co-op positions
or study abroad may not be able to meet with the professor, the first step
in the current process.† The initial proposal was to give those students
an extra semester to file a grievance.† The problem with the proposal is
that faculty may discard course materials after one semester, especially
with large courses and courses with a substantial number of assignments.†
- Grade grievance Web site.† Ray Vito proposed that
the registrar (or some other official Georgia Tech entity) establish a
grade grievance Web site.† On the site any student could register a
grievance, and an automatic email would be sent to the faculty member to
request that the studentís materials be saved until a specific date.† A
second email could also be sent to the student detailing the grade
grievance process.† Once the student returned to campus, the student would
meet with the faculty member, and the process would continue as before.

- Resolution.† The committee could not agree on a
resolution, but Bobby, Alison, and Reta agreed to meet and work on revised
language to present to the committee.
- Next meeting.† The next committee meeting will be
held on September 28, 2006 at 2:00 pm.
The meeting adjourned at 3:15 pm.
