Absent:† Bob Pikowsky, Erika Via, Jilda Garton and Michael Schaepe
Hal Irvin directed the meeting in Jilda Gartonís absence.† This would be Hal Irvinís last meeting with WSC; heís relocating to Virginia Tech.† Ron Bohlander will provide a replacement for Mr. Irvin.
WSC reviewed the WSCís members list, making sure that all information posted on T-square was updated and correct.
WSC discussed the presentation on Emergency preparedness presented by Andy Altizer at the last meeting.† Mr. Altizer spoke about the last emergency notification procedure and improvements being made to make it more efficient.† WSC discussed the tornado warning notifications; how to proceed in finding a safe place when taking cover inside.† WSC made suggestions for improvements on GT campus, which derived from the Virginia Tech tragedy, such as outdoor emergency silent system; placing locks on classroom doors that lock from the inside and providing first responders with a master key.† Mr. Altizer invited WSC to participate in the Emergency Preparedness and Safety Committee meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 2:00 pm in the Police Station.†
Mark Demyanek gave WSC an overview on the week of March 3, a team of external auditors will visit the Institute to conduct a comprehensive audit of all campus facilities and operations for compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. The goal of the auditing process is to achieve and maintain compliance with environmental laws and regulations, rather than face targeted EPA inspections and enforcement actions.† He also spoke about the service provided by Environmental Health and Safety such as:
