Andy Altizer presented an overview of Campus Emergency Preparedness and an update on new initiatives including GTENS which will be tested on January 29, 2008 and the emergency warning sirens now being installed on campus.

Mr. Altizer asked the WSC assist in identifying a faculty member to serve on an ad hoc committee that assists his office.  The committee, known as the Emergency Preparedness and Safety Committee, meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 2:00 pm in the Police Station.

Dr. Whiteman indicated to Mr. Altizer that the WSC encourages the Institute to respond to the "lessons learned" from last years tragic campus shooting incident at Virginia Tech. Specifically, Georgia Tech should move as quickly as possible to add interior locks to classroom doors, in a manner consistent with fire code, so that violent individuals can be kept out of classrooms.  The Institute has identified the 50 largest classrooms and is installing locks on those; WSC encourages continued efforts to install the locks on all existing classrooms and ensure that they are installed in new facilities as they are built.

The next meeting of WSC is scheduled for February 11, 2008 in the GTRC Board Room at RAB.
