STUDENT HONOR COMMITTEE: REPORT TO THE ACADEMIC SENATE

Academic year 2006-2007 (Summer 2006 through Spring 2007)

 

Overview:

·         The Committee is composed of twelve faculty members and nine students (six undergraduate; three graduate).  Elected Faculty members: V. Birchfield (INTA), J. Michaels (ECE), S. Ruffin (AE), J. Schork (CE), B. Blackbourn-Jasma (ML), C. Contant (CP), A. Giebelhaus (HTS), C. Senf (LCC), K. Tomajko (LIB), M. Axford (LIB), H. Beckham ( PFTE), G. Sharp (ISYE) . J. Gole (PHY) and P. Auslander (LCC) were appointed by the Executive Committee of the faculty to complete the unexpired terms of J. Schork and C. Contant respectively.

·         In addition to Chairperson Giebelhaus, H. Beckham, J. Michaels, S. Ruffin, and C. Senf, have served as hearing chairs over the past year.

Statistics:

On January 8, 2007 the Office of Student Integrity implemented a new Student Code of Conduct that was approved by the Senate.  All academic integrity cases initiated through January 7, 2007 were handled under the provisions of the old code; all cases initiated as of January 8, 2007 came under the new code.  The statistical data shown below is therefore broken down with regard to numbers from the “Old Code” and the “New Code.” The total number is a combination of cases adjudicated under the two code regimes.

Note: For comparative purposes, the total number of cases adjudicated in the previous year (Academic Year 2005-2006) was 320, with students found responsible in 221 of those cases.
