  1. The meeting began at 4:10 pm.

  2. The minutes of November 19, 2007 were approved.

  3. Cross Enrollment and Concurrent Registration in the Summer

The Committee discussed the issue of removing the requirement to ask advance permission to the IUCC to register concurrently at Georgia Tech and another institution during the Summer term.  It was felt by most members of Committee that such a requirement was unfair to some students (e.g., scholarship athletes, who, in order to receive their scholarship funds, are required to be enrolled at Georgia Tech in the Summer term.)

The Committee voted unanimously to recommend an exception in the Summer according to the following wording change to Section XI. A. 5 of the Rules and Regulations:

      Current wording:

For institutions not participating in cross enrollment, a student must apply in advance for permission to be concurrently registered at both Georgia Tech and the other institution.

      Recommended wording:

For institutions not participating in cross enrollment, a student must apply in advance for permission to be concurrently registered at both Georgia Tech and the other institution, except during the Summer.

The Committee voted unanimously to recommend an exception in the Summer according to the following wording change to the first sentence of Section XI. B. 1 of the Rules and Regulations:

      Current wording:

Cross enrollment and concurrent registration are available only to degree-seeking juniors, seniors, and graduating students.

      Recommended wording:

Cross enrollment and concurrent registration are available only to degree-seeking juniors, seniors, and graduating students, except during the Summer term, when cross enrollment and concurrent registration are available to all degree-seeking students.

Ray Vito suggested that the policy be revisited in a year or so and that data be collected on its impact—particularly as it relates to student success in follow-up courses to those taken at other institutions.

4.      Academic Renewal
The Committee discussed the need to implement the BOR Policy on Academic Renewal.   The Committee agreed that the IUCC should be empowered with making the decision as to whether an application for Academic Renewal is approved or not.    Reta agreed to draft wording that could be voted on by the Committee at a subsequent meeting.

5.      Academic Standing

The Chair reminded the Committee to review the current description of Academic Standing in the Rules and Regulations with a view to improve its clarity.

6.      The meeting adjourned at 5:05 pm.
