Re: Report of the Student Grievance and Appeal Committee activities during the 2007-2008 academic year
The members of the SGAC during the 2007-2008 period were as follows:
Facundo M. Fernández (Chemistry/Biochemistry, Chair)
Arnold Schneider (College of Management)
Paul Kvam (ISyE)
Lauren Johnson (Undergraduate student representative)
Mitch Keller (Graduate student representative)
Greg Huey acted as liaison with the Executive committee
Due to changes in the Faculty Handbook which modified the role of the Student Grievance and Appeal Committee (SGAC), the main activity carried out during the 2007-2008 period was to solicit volunteers to serve as outside members on separate unit-level grade appeal committees. This task was performed by the chair, as no input was necessary from the other SGAC members. The cases received by the SGAC were as follows:
Wendy Kelly (CHEM) to ECE, February 2008. Requested by Gary May.
Stefan France (CHEM) to ISyE, February 2008. Requested by Chen Zhou.
Larry Bottomley (CHEM) to ISyE, May 2008. Requested by Chen Zhou.
Ken Brown (CHEM) to CoC, July 2008. Requested by Tom Pilsch.
In addition to the aforementioned routine activities, the Chair was involved in one grievance case originating in the School of Public Policy. This case had started in 2006 and was finalized in 2008.
In addition to the aforementioned cases, during February-March 2008, the SGAC met to discuss its new charge and provide feedback to Greg Huey, who transmitted the result of our discussions to the Executive Board.
