This meeting was devoted to discussing the laptop requirement issue. A survey was sent out to the entire faculty in early November, and the results were discussed. Govind agreed to take the results and organize them for the planned presentation to the Executive Board. Miles Edson presented information from ResNet surveys. We also discussed a position paper sent to the committee by Prof. Mark Guzdial (CoC). The next meeting will concentrate on making the slides for the presentation.

This meeting was devoted to two issues: first, editing the existing document that defines the Computer Ownership requirement, and second, discussion of the laptop requirement presentation.

From the SCOC solicitation for new hardware and software, some responses received by the committee chair asking about MathCAD. In the case of MathCAD, there does not appear to be widespread demand for this package to be required since MATLAB and Maple are already required and widely used in freshman courses. In addition, the request mentioned the possibility of having better pricing for MathCAD if it were required, but it turns out that the GT Bookstore already offers a very low price, so the requests are fulfilled anyway.

Updates to the hardware and software requirements were approved. Most of these were upgrades in the sense of requiring fast processors and disk storage that reflects the currently available hardware, as well as updating version numbers for software. The SCO brochure was edited to emphasize laptops.
