MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUMCOMMITTEE

  1. The School of Physics requested that the following course be approved. A motion for approval was made. Motion seconded and approved. Unanimous. 
  2. Approved course:

    PHYS 2213 Introduction to Modern Physics (3-0-3)

    This course will replace PHYS 2133 which should be made inactive Fall 2000.

  3. The School of Physics requested that the descriptions of the following courses be changed to more carefully specify the topics covered and facilitate transfer credit assessment.
  4. PHYS 2211 Introductory Physics I

    3-3-4 Prerequisite with concurrency: Math 1502

    A calculus based course with laboratory covering classical mechanics, applications of

    classical mechanics, oscillations, and waves.

    PHYS 2212 Introductory Physics II

    3-3-4 Prerequisite: Phys 2211 or 2213. Prerequisite with concurrency: Math 2401

    A calculus based course with laboratory covering electromagnetism, applications of electromagnetism, light, and modern physics.

  5. The School of Mechanical Engineering requested the following course be approved. A motion was made to approve the course. The Motion was seconded and approved. Unanimous.
  6. Approved course:

    ME 4451 Robotics (2-2-3)

    ME 4450 (3-0-3) Robotics should be made inactive Spring 2001.

  7. The School of Mechanical Engineering requested the approval of the following curriculum change to the BSME degree. A motion was made and seconded for approval. Motion approved. Unanimous.
  8. Replace PHYS 3266 Computational Physics (3-3-4) with PHYS 2213 Modern Physics

    (3-0-3) as the physics option for the fourth science course.

    This change will reduce the number of hours required for the degree from 125 to 124 plus wellness.

  9. As an informational item the School of Mechanical Engineering requested that ME 3340, Fluid Mechanics, be listed as a prerequisite for ME 3345, Heat Transfer.
  10. The School of Aerospace Engineering requested the following change to the curriculum:
  11. Require LCC 3401, Technical Writing Practices (2-0-2). The number of free electives would be reduced from 11 to 9. A motion was made to approve the change. The motion was seconded and approved. Unanimous.

  12. The DuPree College of Management requested the approval of the OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE. This is the conversion of the certificate from quarter to semester. A motion was made to approve the certificate. Motion was seconded and approved. Unanimous
  13. The School of Chemistry requested the approval of the Business Option for the B.S. Degree in Chemistry. A motion was made to approve the option. The motion was seconded and approved. Unanimous
  14. The College of Architecture requested the following change to its core curriculum requirements in the area of science for the ARCHITECURE PROGRAM and the INDUSTRIAL DESIGN PROGRAM :

  16. The Building Construction Program in the College of Architecture requested changes to the curriculum. After discussion, the request was tabled, and the department was asked to resubmit the request for the changes and the Internship course with the appropriate number for the course.
  17. The Department of Music in the College of Architecture requested the approval of the following courses. A motion was made and seconded to approve the courses. Motion approved. Unanimous.
  18. Approved courses:

    MUSI 3710/20/30 Individual Applied Instruction (1-0-1)

  19. A motion was made and seconded to elect Joe Hughes as chair of the committee for 2000-1. Motion approved. Unanimous 
  20. A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from April 12, April 26, May 3 and 16, and June 14. The motion was seconded and approved. Unanimous.
