MINUTES

April 26, 2000

Visitors: Greenlee (COC), Guzdial (COC), Gregor (HPS), Mendola (MUS), Rockwood (ML), Tew (COC), Wentz (HPS)

 

  1. A motion was made to approve the minutes of August 4, October 13, November 17, December 8, February 16, March 1, and March 22 meetings. Motion was seconded and approved.
  2. The Department of Health and Performance Sciences presented the Certificate in Health and Performance Science for approval. This is the conversion of the quarter certificate. A motion was made to approve the certificate. Motion was seconded and approved (9-0-0).
  3. The following new courses were approved to replace HPS 1061:
  4. HPS 1062 Fitness Concepts/Running 1-2-2

    HPS 1063 Fitness Concepts/Swimming 1-2-2

    HPS 1064 Fitness Concepts/Cross-Training 1-2-2

    These three courses will replace HPS 1061 as satisfying the wellness requirement in all undergraduate degree programs.

  5. The following new courses were approved:
  6. HPS 3300 Health Promotion 3-0-3

    HPS 3600 Muscle Structure and Plasticity 3-0-3

  7. The Department of Music requested that MUSI 4801,4802 and 4803 be approved as Humanities credit. It was also requested that the courses be entered in the catalog as letter grade, pass/fail and audit. A motion was made to approve the request. The motion was seconded and approved (9-0-0).
  8. The Department of Modern Languages requested the approval of the following courses. There was a motion to approve. Motion was seconded and approved (9-0-0).
  9. JAPN 1801-2 Special Topics 3-0-3

    SPAN 1801,2801,3801,3802,4801, 4802 Special Topics in Spanish 3-0-3

  10. The College of Computing made the following requests:
  11. New courses approved

    CS 4665 Educational Technology 3-0-3

    CS 2130 Languages and Translation 3-3-4

    CS 2335 Software Practicum 2-3-3

    CS 2330 and CS 2341 should be made inactive after Fall 2000.

    The following changes to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Degree requirements were requested and approved.

    Delete CS 2330, 2nd year, 1st semester

    Delete CS 2331, 2nd year, 1st semester

    Delete CS 2341, 2nd year, 1st semester

    Add CS 2130, 2nd year, 1st semester

    Add CS 2335, 2nd year, 2nd semester

  12. The following guidelines were established for the Registrars Office for approval of overloads for Summer, 2000.
  13. Co-ops on work term can register for up to 6 additional hours of academic work.

    Non-graduating students on good standing with a GPA of 2.5 can register for up to 3 additional hours.

    Graduating students on good standing can register up to 3 additional hours.

    A motion was made to let McIver and Hughes act as a sub-committee to review all petitions for overloads for Summer. Motion was seconded and approved.

  14. Chair will send out suggestions from Executive Board concerning issues raised during presentation from UCC. Chair would like recommendations for changes that should be made to the Committee.
