Minutes of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee

Members Present: Cain (MATH), Eiselt (for Ram CoC), Evans (Student), Hughes (ECE), Kingsley (PubP), Moran (CHEM), DiSabatino (ODOS), Sankar (AE), Schneider (DCOM), Shelton (ME)

  1. Joe Hughes stated that the IUCC was responsible for reviewing each undergraduate degree program every five years, along with a complete program review as required by the Board of Regents. Hughes will work with Joseph Hoey to develop a letter to be sent to the schools whose programs are to be evaluated this year.
  2. A discussion was held concerning the GPAs for determining academic standing and inconsistencies that occur with these rules and the GPA requirements for graduation and honors. The committee felt that the inconsistencies were not appropriate and that the Student Rules and Regulations Committee should address this issue.
  3. One hundred-thirteen student petitions were reviewed by the committee, all were approved unless noted:

58-to readmit Spring 2001 (7 denied)

26-to withdraw past deadline (13 denied)

4-to take lesser hours to participate in athletics

1-to use semester hours for humanities credit

2-to substitute ISYE course for MGT course (1 denied)

2-to substitute courses for other courses)

1-to count MUSI course as symphonic band

1-to transfer course from NC State as humanities (denied)

1-use ECON course and one undergraduate course towards MS

1-to use MUSI course humanities/taken twice

1-to waive wellness requirement (denied)

1-to have cross-registered course removed from schedule

6-to waive 10, 36 year rule (1 denied)

1-to have MATH grade changed to "I" (denied)

2-to waive 9-9-22 rule (2 denied)

2-to enroll more hours in addition to co-op course

1-to allow 3 semester hours for ap history

1-to be concurrently enrolled at Ga Tech and Ga Perimeter

1-to substitute MATH course for other MATH courses

1-to use ECON as social elective

1-to change basis of FRENCH course to l/g (denied)

  1. The Dean of Student Services reported the following actions: 

AE-one student

placed on disciplinary probation through Spring 2000.; will receive a grade of "F" in ENGL 1102 for Spring 2000.

BIOL-one student

reprimanded by the Senior Associate Dean of Students: will deduct 10 points from lab average in PHYS 2211 for Fall 2000.

CMPE-one student

placed on indefinite disciplinary warning; assigned grade for ECE 2025 will drop one letter grade for Fall 2000.

CMPE-one student

placed on disciplinary probation through Fall 2000; will receive a grade of "F" in CS 1311 for Spring 2000.

CMPE-one student

placed on disciplinary probation through Fall 2000; will receive a grade of "F" in ECE 3075 for Summer 2000.

CS-one student

reprimanded by the Senior Associate Dean of Students; assigned grade for CS 2330 will drop one letter grade for Fall 1999.

CS-one student

placed on disciplinary through probation Fall 2000; will receive a grade of "F" in CS 1311 for Spring 2000.

EE-one student

suspended through Spring 2001; will receive a grade of "F" in ECE 2030D and ECE 2025 for Fall 2000.

EE-one student

placed on indefinite disciplinary warning; assigned grade for CS 1311 will drop one letter grade for Spring 2000.

IE-one student

reprimanded by the Senior Associate Dean of Students; will deduct 10 points from lab average in PHYS 2211 for Fall 2000.
