1.      Action taken on student petitions is reported on the Petitions Summary.  (See below)

  1. An informational item, receipt of signed letter for ChBE, Chem, BMED 4765, was recognized.
  2. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture for a Minor in Film and Media Studies. The motion was seconded and approved.
  3. A motion was made to approve a request from the College of Architecture to officially change the name of its "Bachelor of Science" degree to "Bachelor of Science in Architecture". The motion was seconded and approved.
  4. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture to participate in the Research Option. The motion was seconded and approved.
  5. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Public Policy to offer new courses and deactivate others. The motion was seconded and approved.

8.      A motion was made to approve a request from the School of History, Technology, and Society to change HTS degree requirements, add new courses and change a course. The motion was seconded and approved,

 

CHANGES TO DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

 

·        Add new required course, HTS 1001, Introduction to History, Technology, and Society

·        Drop HTS 3102 as required course

·        Change the number of a required course - HTS 3101 to HTS 2101 (new course) and simplify the title to “Research Methods”

·        Add a 12-hour non-major cluster requirement

 

 

 

 

 

            NEW COURSES

 

            HTS 1001 Introduction to History, Technology, and Society 3-0-3

            HTS 4990 HTS Internship (instead of HTS 4925A) 1-12

            HTS 2041 History of the Modern Middle East 3-0-3

            HTS 3051 Women and the Politics of Gender in the Middle East 3-0-3

 

            HTS 2101 Research Methods, replaces HTS 3101. Note: This will require a

new course proposal. It is approved pending Registrar’s receipt of the new course proposal.

           

            HTS 2009 US Civil War to be renumbered to HTS 3009. Note: This will require a

new course proposal. It is approved pending Registrar’s receipt of the new course proposal.

 

9.      A motion was made to approve changes to administrative processes as recommended by the Chair and the Registrar. The motion was seconded and approved.

 

The Registrar will make administrative decisions on the following categories of petitions. Petitions that do not meet these criteria will be referred to the Committee. Petitions that the Registrar feels, for whatever reason, should be referred to the Committee will be placed on the agenda for review. Otherwise, requests that meet the following criteria will be processed administratively by the Registrar.

 

·        Allowing "D" grades to be used so long as the major school recommends it.

·        Allow students in good standing to enroll for up to 24 hours provided: a) the major school recommends it, b) the student has been enrolled at least two prior terms, c) the student's cumulative GPA is greater than 3.0, and d) the student will have accumulated 90 hours or will have achieved senior status.

1.       Student Petitions Considered and Voted-Upon by the Committee

The committee heard one in-person appeal and reviewed two written appeals as well as new petitions. All were approved except as noted:

 

1-in person appeal, readmission Spring 2007 on third drop

2-written appeals, late Fall 2006 withdrawal (1 denied)

1-to receive “W” in SPAN 2002, taken Spring 2005 (denied)

2-to waive the 36-hour rule

2-to be concurrently enrolled and to waive the 36-hour rule (2 denied)

2-Fall 2006 medical withdrawals (1 denied)

1-Spring 2007 readmission after being placed on second drop (denied)

1-to count “D” grade in MATH 1502, taken Spring 2006 as MATH requirement

1-Tabled

 

2.       Petitions Handled by Administrative Decision

The following petitions met the guidelines for “Administrative Action,” and were decided by the registrar under the authority granted to her by the Committee. Note: some were decided in consultation with the Chair.

All were approved except as noted:

 

  1-to count MUSI 1501, 1502, 3502, and HUMN XXX1 to satisfy humanities credit towards graduation

  10-permission to take more than required hours for Spring 2007 registration

  1-to waive the 10-year rule (petition already approved pending reports from instructional units)

  1-late withdrawal in ECON 2105, Fall 2006 (part of blanket approval from Jan. 8 meeting)

  2-readmission Spring 2007 after first drop

  1-to accept late grade change in MSE 2020, taken Spring 2006
