Note: All action items in these minutes require approval by the Academic Senate.  In some instances, items may require further approval by the Board of Regents or the University System of Georgia.  If the Regents' approval is required, the change is not official until notification is received from the Board to that effect. Items that are marked below with an asterisk (*) require USG and/or BOR approval and are not official until approval has been received. Academic units should take no action on these items until USG and/or BOR approval is secured.  In addition, units should take no action on any of the items below until these minutes have been approved by the Academic Senate or the Executive Board.

  1. Five-year academic program reviews were discussed for History, Technology, and Society, Public Policy, and the College of Computing.  The revised documents will be sent to the Committee via email for final comment and vote.

 

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Modern Languages for new courses.  The motion was seconded and approved.

NEW COURSES

SPAN 3400 Immigration through Film 3-0-3

 

SPAN 3690 Commerce and Sustainable Communities 3-0-3

Note: The abbreviation for the transcript was changed to read “COMMERCE SUSTAIN COMMUN”.

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the College of Architecture for new courses and a social science designation for a course. The motion was seconded and approved.

NEW COURSES

ARCH Modern and Contemporary Architectural Theory and Criticism 3-0-3

ARCH 4137 Postwar Architecture and Urbanism in the U.S.: Design, Politics, & History 3-0-3

(Note: Will carry Social Science Core Credit)

ARCH 4227 Architecture and Ecology 3-0-3

            (Note: Transcript abbreviation will read Architecture & Ecology)

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the College of Computing and the School of Literature, Communication and Culture for modified grade requirements for the BS in Computational Media, its International Plan Option, and its Research Option.  The motion was seconded and approved.

All required CS and LCC courses must be taken on a letter-grade basis, with a final grade of C or better. These requirements are indicated by asterisks on the eight-semester recommended programs of study.

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Psychology for

a new course and adding PSYCH 2760 to the Social Science Elective list. The motion was seconded and approved.

 

PREREQUISITE CHANGES: INFORMATION ITEM

 

·         Add PSYC 1101 as a prereq for PSYC 2220 Industrial Organizational Psychology

·         Remove BIOL 1510 as a prereq for PSYC 3040 and PSYC 3041

·         Change prereqs for PSYC 2020 – eliminate PSYC 2010 and PSYC 2015 and ISYE 2027 as prereqs

 

SOCIAL SCIENCE LIST OF ELECTIVES

 

Add PSYC 2760 Human Language Process to the Social Science Elective list.

 

NEW COURSE

 

PSYC 3012 Introduction to Cognitive Psychology 3-0-3

(Note: Credit is not awarded for both PSYC 3011 and 3012.  Psychology majors are not eligible to take this course.)

 

  1. The in-person appeal of a student who requested readmission after a second drop was denied.
