PRESENT: Byars (MGT), Williams (ECE), Schatz (Physics), Parsons (MGT), Snell (BIOL), Bottomley (CHEM), Ferri (ME), Pikowsky (Registrar)

 

VISITORS: Stein (ODOS), Hartley (EAS), Bradd (Registrar)

 

1.   Prerequisite changes in the EAS curriculum were reviewed with no objections or concerns.

 

Change the prerequisites of EAS 4420 Environmental Field Methods. A lab course will be a pre-requisite to EAS 4420, changing the prerequisites of EAS 4420 to: 2600 and [EAS 3620 or (EAS 4740 and 4641)].

2. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences to create a new course and to change degree requirements. The motion was seconded and approved. Unanimous.

Create a new lab course for the Atmospheric Track.

 

NEW COURSE

 

EAS 4641 Atmospheric Chemistry Lab 0-3-1

 

Change degree requirements.

 

Change our degree requirements to ensure our students take one of our upper level lab courses prior to EAS 4420.

 

Currently a student has the option of choosing two of four courses:

        EAS 3620 Geochemistry 3-3-4

        EAS 4630 Physics of the Earth 3-3-0

        EAS 4655 Atmospheric Dynamics 3-3-0

        EAS Atmospheric Chemistry 3-3-0

 

We now what the requirements to be: Choose two of the following four with at least one including a lab 3620 or 4740/4641:

        EAS 3620 Geochemistry 3-3-4

        EAS 4630 Physics of the Earth 3-3-0

        EAS 4655 Atmospheric Dynamics 3-3-0

        EAS Atmospheric Chemistry 3-3-0 and EAS 4641 Atmospheric Chemistry Lab 0-3-1

 

3. A motion was made to approve a change in the Guidelines for Minor and Certificates regarding use of non-resident (transfer) credit. The motion was seconded and approved. Unanimous.

Current:

8. All courses counting toward the minor must be completed in residence at Georgia Tech, be taken on a letter-grade basis, and completed with an overall grade point average of at least 2.00.

 

New:

8. All courses counting toward the minor must be taken on a letter-grade basis and completed with an overall grade point average of at least 2.00.

 

Current:

10. All courses counting toward the certificate must be completed in residence at Georgia Tech, be taken on a letter-grade basis, and be completed with a grade of C or better.

 

New:

10. All courses counting toward the certificate must be taken on a letter-grade basis, and be completed with a grade of C or better.

 

4. One appeal of a denied petition was reviewed and new petitions were acted on. The summary of those actions are being provided in a separate document.
