Minutes

Note: In some instances, curricular change, once approved by the Academic Senate, must be sent to either the University System of Georgia Office for approval or administrative action or to the Board of Regents as either a notification item or for approval. The change is not official until notification is received from the USG office or the Board of Regents to that effect.

 

1.      The Committee heard two in-person appeals from students. The results were as follows.

·        Readmit after a second drop – DENIED

·        Late withdrawal Fall 2006 – DENIED

2.      The Committee acted on one new petition. The results were as follows

·        Late withdrawal Fall 2006 – APPROVED

3.      The following petitions met the guidelines for “Administrative Action”, and were decided by the registrar under the authority granted to her by the Committee. All were approved except as noted.

  1. A motion was made to approve requests from the School of Psychology to officially change the name of its "Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology" degree to "Bachelor of Science in Psychology", add a new course, make degree modifications, and change a prerequisite. The motion was seconded and approved.

 

            NEW COURSES

            PSYC 3041 Human Sensation and Perception 3-3-4

 

            PREREQUISITES

            Add PSYC 1101 as a prerequisite for PSYC 2220

 

            CHANGE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

            Add PSYC 3041

            Reduce PSYC electives by 3

            Reduce Free electives by 1

 

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Aerospace Engineering to offer new courses, change degree requirements, and change prerequisites for existing courses.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 

            NEW COURSES

            AE 4358 Rotorcraft Design I  2-3-3

            AE 4359 Rotorcraft Design II  2-3-3

 

            CHANGE DEGREE REQUIRMENTS:

            Allow AE 4358 and 4359 to be used together to meet the capstone requirement.

 

            PREREQUISITES:

            AE 4350 - Prerequisite AE 3310; pre-req with concurrency AE 3021, AE 3521, AE 4451

            AE 4351 - Prerequisite AE 4350; AE 3021; AE 3521; AE 4451

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the International Plan Committee to offer two new courses. The motion was seconded and approved.

  1. A motion was made to approve requests from the School Civil and Environmental Engineering to participate in the International Plan for the BS in Environmental Engineering, add new courses, and make degree modifications for the BS in Civil Engineering. The motion was seconded and approved.

 

            NEW DEGREE DESIGNATIOR

            Add the International Plan for BS in Environmental Engineering

                        [Note: Signed approval letter must be delivered to Registrar.]

 

            NEW COURSES

            CEE 4225 Introduction to Coastal Engineering 3-0-3

            CEE 4405 Introduction to Geotechnical Engineering 2-3-3

 

            CHANGE IN DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

            For the BS in Civil Engineering, move CEE 4200 from the required list to the breadth    elective list, replaces CEE 4400 with CEE 4405 in the breadth elective list, and     requires that students choose at least one course with a physical laboratory         component. Add four new courses (CEE 3340, CEE 4225, CEE 4395, CEE 4699) to             the Technical          elective list.

 

  1. A motion was made to approve requests from the School of Modern Languages to add new courses, deactivate courses, and change minor requirements. The motion was seconded and approved.

            Students must earn 18 credit hours of language electives, in a single language, with at                  least 12 hours of coursework at the 3000 level or above.

           

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Biology to offer new courses, and change degree requirements.  The motion was seconded and approved.

            Add this stipulation: *Students may substitute 4 credits of Biology elective for                            BIOL 1520 if they received a score of 5 on the AP Biology test

 

·        Remove requirement for BIOL 2400 Mathematical Models in Biology

 

·        Add requirement of “Quantitative Biology Requirement” consisting of any one of the           

                  following:

·        Change Research Requirement to one of: BIOL 4910 Honors Research Thesis, or BIOL 4590 Research Project Lab, or BIOL 4690 Independent Research Project, or 12 credit hours of BIOL 4698 (Research Assistantship, with approval of School of Biology undergraduate coordinator).  BIOL 4910, 4590, or 4690 must be taken for letter grade.  Students taking BIOL 4910 or 4690 must enroll in BIOL 4450 Senior Seminar concurrently or the semester immediately following these courses.

 

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Public Policy to change the Law, Science, and Technology minor and Pre-Law Certificate requirements.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 

            MINOR REQUIREMENT CHANGE

            Use INTA 4060 toward the Law, Science, and Technology minor and Pre-Law            Certificate
