Items that are marked below with an asterisk (*) require USG and/or BOR approval and are not official until approval has been received. Academic units should take no action on these items until USG and/or BOR approval is secured.  In addition, units should take no action on any of the items below until these minutes have been approved by the Academic Senate or the Executive Board.

 

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to participate in the Research Option for their Civil and Environmental degree programs. The motion was seconded and approved.

 

2.        A request from the College of Management for pre-requisite changes was acknowledged. No concerns were expressed.

3.        A motion was made to approve a request from the Division of Professional Practice for six new courses and deactivate 8 current courses.  The motion was seconded and approved.

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry to participate in the International Plan for their Chemistry and Biochemistry degree programs. The motion was seconded and approved.

 

Note: There was a typographical error in the 8-term plan that has now been corrected.

 

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the School of Biology for three new courses and deactivate 16 current courses and table two other new course proposals pending receipt of further explanation and information. The motion was seconded and approved.

Note: The tabled proposals will be taken up at the next meeting. The course numbers will be finalized and questions related to cross-listings will be addressed. The course number for BIOL 4417 is confirmed.

 

  1. A motion was made to table a request from the International Plan Committee to add MGT 4056 Electronic Commerce to their Global Economics International Plan Category. The motion to table was seconded and approved.

 

Note: The College of Management will follow up with the International Plan Committee on this question.

 

  1. A motion was made to approve a request from the College of Architecture

for a new course.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 

NEW COURSE

 

COA 4010 History of the Construction Industry 3-0-3

 

Note: The course was approved, but without the Social Science attribute.  The procedure for assigning core attributes will be examined at a later date and procedures put into place to ensure appropriate and thorough review of such questions.

 

  1. After considerable discussion, further discussion of a request for an undesignated Bachelor’s degree was tabled.  The Dean of Students and Registrar will follow up with the Provost’s Office and others as needed to provide additional information.

 

  1. The Committee discussed the question as to whether the formula that dictates the number of members is working and whether it would be preferable to have 20 members, which is what the formula calls for, rather than the 16 that are currently serving. The result of the discussion was that the formula seems to work and that it would be beneficial to have a full twenty member committee.  The next round of elections for the IUCC should then seek to fill all 20 membership slots.
