Note: All action items in these minutes require approval by the Academic Senate.  In some instances, items may require further approval by the Board of Regents or the University System of Georgia.  If the Regents' approval is required, the change is not official until notification is received from the Board to that effect. Academic units should take no action on these items until USG and/or BOR approval is secured.  In addition, units should take no action on any of the items below until these minutes have been approved by the Academic Senate or the Executive Board.

Academic Matters

  1. The Chair of the Committee discussed completion of program reviews for the 2009-2010 cycle. Action is required on one remaining program.

         Prosthetics and Orthotics completed, needs, IGCC approval

  1. The Chair of the Committee discussed completion of program reviews for the 2010-2011 cycle. Action is required on the following programs. Assuming that the reports are filed, GCC action can be taken at the next meeting.

         Applied Physiology, completed, need IGCC approval

         Bioengineering completed, need IGCC approval

         Bioinformatics

         Biomedical Engineering, completed, need IGCC approval

         Civil and Environmental Engineering, completed, need IGCC approval

         Economics

         Management

         Quantitative and Computational Finance

  1. The Chair of the Committee discussed completion of program reviews for the 2011-2012 cycle. As soon as the pending reviews are accepted, volunteers will be needed to write reports on the following programs:

         Aerospace Engineering

         Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization

         Building Construction

         Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

         City and Regional Planning

         Computational Science and Engineering

         Computer Science

         Human-Centered Computing

         Human-Computer Interaction

Petitions

  1. A motion was made to approve a request for a waiver of the one-credit hour rule (having registered more than once for one hour of credit). The motion was seconded and approved.
  2. A motion was made to approve a request for a waiver of the one-credit hour rule (having registered more than once for one hour of credit). The motion was seconded and approved.
  3. A motion was made to approve a request to graduate with a low GPA as required by the major School (student meets Institute GPA for the MS degree). The motion was seconded and approved.
  4. A motion was made to deny a request to transfer twelve hours rather than the six that are normally allowed. The motion was seconded and approved.
  5. A motion was made to approve petitions subcommittee actions in the following areas. The motion was seconded and approved.

The following petitions were reviewed by the Graduate Petitions Subcommittee.  All are approved except where noted.
1 Register for one credit of CHEM9000 for a second term (1 Denied)
2 Selective withdrawal
1 Change grade mode
2 Late grade change
1 Remove W's from SU11 term

The following petitions were handled Administratively by the Registrar's office.  All are approved except where noted.
1 Be allowed to take CHEM1212 for letter grade
2 Six-year rule waiver
1 Complete course work for AE8900
1 Change grade mode from letter grade to audit
8 Full graduate standing
1 Use 9000-level course work as 7000-level towards M.S. Degree requirement
