MINUTES OF THE GRADUATE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETING

June 10, 2004

 

 

 

PRESENT: Craig (AE), Green (MATH), Klein (PUBP-for Bostrom), McIver (REG), Sanders (MSE), Venkateswaren (COC)

 

VISITORS: Greger (AP), Jagoda (AE)

 

 

1.       A motion was made to approve the minutes of the April 22, 2004 and the April 28, 2004 meetings.  The motion was seconded and approved.  Unanimous.

 

2.       A motion was made to approve the sub-committee’s report on petitions.  The motion was seconded and approved.  Unanimous.

 

3.       The Committee heard petitions that were referred to the full committee by the sub-committee.

 

4.       The School of Public Policy requested that the following new course be approved.  A motion was made to approve the request.  The motion was seconded and approved.  Unanimous.

 

NEW COURSE

PUBP 6111  Internet and Public Policy   (3-0-3)

 

5.       A request was made by the School of Materials Science and Engineering to participate in the Multidisciplinary Degree Programs of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Paper Science and Engineering.  A motion was made to approve the request.  The motion was seconded and approved.  Unanimous.

 

6.       The School of Applied Physiology requested the approval of a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Physiology.  After discussion, a motion was made to approve the request with minor changes to the sections covering Comprehensive Examination and Dissertation Defense. The motion was seconded and approved.  Unanimous.

 

7.       The School of Aerospace Engineering requested permission to award a second MS AE.  The student had received a MSAE degree in Summer of 1992.  The course work for the second MS degree will not duplicate any work used for the first degree.  A motion was made to approve the request.  The motion was seconded and approved. 

 

8.       The committee reviewed twenty-four petitions, covering 26 actions.  All were approved except noted:

 

11-to withdraw from course(s) past deadline (2 denied)

3-to change basis of course

4-to count undergrad hours towards degree

1-to graduate with low gpa

3-to waive 6-year rule

3-to be readmitted (1 denied)

1-to return fall 2004 after withdrawing summer
